For most the hardest part of learning to pick locks open is visualising what your tools are doing inside the lock. Clearly, a window in the side of a lock is a huge advantage to picking a lock open. Seeing your picks interact with the pins. Knowing what pins are set and what pins still need to be worked on. It makes opening a lock so much easier and significantly reduces the amount of time it takes to learn lockpicking. Cutaway locks help you learn what it feels like when you lift a pin, set a pin or over-set a pin because you can see your tools interact with the lock.
What is meant by Cutaway?
All our cutaway locks have a milled window that allows you to see the motions of the first 5 top and bottom pins and springs inside the lock. You can see the mechanics of the lock interact with the key or your picks to get a full visualization of how it operates. Most of us are visual learners and a cutaway lock really helps in the early days of lock picking.
Who should use a cutaway lock?
Cutaway locks are really designed for everyone. If you are learning, teaching or have interest in building a lock it is an invaluable tool.
Why Choose Sparrows’ for your Practice lock needs?
All SPARROWS cutaway locks are machined from a solid brass block to be as true to a standard lock as possible. The core is also enclosed within the frame. This is important if you plan to use a vise to hold the lock. If the core is not completely internal when it is placed in the vise the core will also be gripped by the vise and it will not turn freely. All Cutaway locks are tumbled smooth and come in left and right handed options.
